Principal Product Manager, Intelligence
The Monetization Product team at Microsoft is at the forefront of defining how AI creates value for customers and drives growth for Microsoft. We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to help build and operate the intelligence systems that drive decision-making across our business. This role sits at the intersection of product strategy, measurement, analytics, and execution, ensuring leaders and teams have the right data, metrics, insights, and operating rhythms to make informed business decisions.
As a Principal Product Manager, you will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, Business Development, Finance, and Legal to define measurement frameworks, establish scalable data pipelines, develop executive reporting and self-service analytics capabilities, and drive a consistent understanding of business performance. You will be responsible for translating complex business questions into durable intelligence solutions, building foundational measurement systems, enabling self-service analytics, driving executive reporting, and establishing operating mechanisms that connect business outcomes to product decisions.
In order to be successful in this role you will combine strong technical depth with business acumen, and strong cross-functional leadership. You must be comfortable building from first principles, navigating ambiguity, and translating complex data into clear recommendations that shape product and business strategy at scale.

Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the measurement strategy, key performance indicators, and success frameworks used to evaluate business and product performance.
- Build intelligence systems that provide visibility into usage patterns, customer segmentation, retention, monetization, and partner success.
- Lead analyses in partnership with Data Science that uncover constraints, scaling opportunities, marketplace dynamics, and long-term business trends.
- Create forecasting, reporting, and diagnostics capabilities that improve understanding of inventory health and business performance.
- Identify emerging opportunities and risks within the existing and emerging product ecosystem through analytical modeling, experimentation, and business performance analysis.
- Partner with product and ecosystem teams to evaluate the impact of platform investments, pricing strategies, growth initiatives, and partner programs.
- Partner with Data Science, Engineering, and Product teams to design and implement scalable data pipelines, metrics, and reporting systems.
- Build executive dashboards, self-service analytics solutions, and diagnostic tooling that improve visibility into business performance and operational health.
- Lead deep-dive analyses to identify drivers, opportunities, risks, and emerging trends, translating findings into actionable recommendations.
- Improve data quality, metric governance, and measurement consistency across teams and organizations.
- Partner with senior leaders to frame business questions, define success criteria, and inform investment and prioritization decisions.
- Drive alignment across Product, Engineering, Data Science, Finance, and Business Planning teams on business performance narratives and strategic insights.
- Build lightweight applications, visualizations, and analytical tools where needed to accelerate understanding and decision-making.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/program management, data science, strategy/consulting, or software development
- OR equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualification:
- Bachelor’s Degree AND 10+ years experience in product/service/program management, data science, strategy/consulting, business planning, go-to-market, product marketing, sales strategy, customer success, or software development
- OR equivalent experience.
- Experience creating measurement systems that influence investment decisions, product strategy, and business performance at organizational scale.
- Experience defining enterprise-wide metrics, KPI frameworks, operating reviews, scorecards, and executive reporting mechanisms.
- Deep understanding of how data platforms, instrumentation, pipelines, metrics, dashboards, and analytics ecosystems combine to enable effective decision making.
- Proven ability to apply systems thinking to complex business problems and identify the critical drivers of performance across interconnected organizations.
- Experience partnering with Data Science and Engineering teams to build scalable, trusted, and actionable data foundations.
- Strong analytical skills with experience leading business diagnostics, opportunity assessments, forecasting, scenario modeling, and strategic recommendations.
- Experience building executive-facing dashboards, visualization tools, self-service analytics capabilities, and business intelligence solutions.
- Track record of influencing senior leaders through structured analysis, compelling narratives, and data-driven insights.
- Experience operating effectively in highly ambiguous environments and creating clarity where goals, metrics, or processes are not yet well defined.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate complex analytical concepts into actionable business decisions.
Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
