The Databases organization delivers trusted, scalable, operational, AI-ready databases that power application development across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments. Our portfolio includes SQL, Azure Cosmos DB, DocumentDB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL, supporting developers as they build AI-native applications and run critical workloads at global scale.
The Microsoft SQL Product Management team is responsible for helping shape the future of Microsoft’s cloud database platform while driving operational excellence across one of Azure’s largest and most strategic businesses.
We are hiring a Principal Product Manager to lead initiatives focused on product management excellence, organizational execution, and AI-powered ways of working across the product management organization. This role is uniquely positioned to influence how product managers operate at scale by improving planning, prioritization, decision-making, and execution rhythms while accelerating the adoption of AI tools and practices that enhance productivity and business impact. Success in this role requires cross-organizational influence, operational rigor, and a passion for building repeatable mechanisms that help teams deliver better outcomes for customers and the business.

Responsibilities
- Drive product management excellence across Microsoft SQL by improving planning, prioritization, execution rhythms, and accountability mechanisms that help teams deliver customer and business outcomes.
- Accelerate adoption of AI-powered tools and practices across the product management organization, identifying opportunities to improve productivity, decision making, and execution quality.
- Partner across Product Management, Engineering, Design, and Customer Success teams to establish scalable operating models, share best practices, and improve organizational effectiveness.
- Leverage customer insights, telemetry, and business metrics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and inform organizational priorities.
- Develop and maintain frameworks, success measures, and review mechanisms that increase visibility, alignment, and execution consistency across teams.
- Foster a culture of learning, experimentation, and continuous improvement by coaching peers, promoting effective product management practices, and sharing successful patterns across the organization.

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development

- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 6+ years experience taking a product, feature, or experience to market (e.g., design, addressing product market fit, and launch, internal tool/framework).
- 8+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).
- 8+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).
- Experience driving organizational effectiveness, operating mechanisms, or execution excellence initiatives across multiple teams.
- Experience identifying and scaling AI-powered workflows, tools, or best practices that improve productivity, decision quality, or execution outcomes.
- Experience using telemetry, customer insights, and business metrics to inform prioritization and continuous improvement efforts.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, enterprise software, data platforms, or AI-enabled product experiences.
- Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders across Product Management, Engineering, Design, Customer Success, and business teams without direct authority.
- Experience coaching peers, sharing best practices, and helping organizations adopt consistent product management disciplines.

Product Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year.
