Description
We are looking for an expert like you to work with the Apple Industrial Design (ID) team, Program Managers, and Operations teams to ensure the high aesthetic standards of Apple products.
Responsibilities
- Achieve Industrial Design intent across organizations and projects with high standards of product quality.
- Tactically execute color matching needs required for mass production.
- Evaluate supplier readiness and alignment to quality plans at all development and qualification stages.
- Identify potential risks of color development and come up with solutions.
- Actively participate in the development of new finishes and ensure adherence to specific goals and strategies supporting business objectives while maintaining the highest quality.
- Support finishes data analysis initiatives to drive enclosure part finish quality improvements with ODM and sub-tier suppliers.
- Qualify and implement groundbreaking quality inspection tools, including visual and instrumental tools/processes.
- Monitor each supplier's performance through measurement of production line statistics, company inspections, and audits.
- Prepare summaries of performance and communicate to the appropriate broader team and management.
- Interact with Industrial Design, Supply Chain Management, Subject Matter Experts, Supplier Based Engineers, Mechanical Quality Engineers, Suppliers, and ODMs to ramp up projects timely and smoothly.
- 70% domestic/international travel is required.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS/MS in quality engineering or related engineering fields (chemical, optical, materials science, mechanical, or equivalent engineering).
- Demonstrated high color acuity and the ability to pass the Munsell Hue Color Test is a must.
- 5+ years of experience in the development of finishing processes for mechanical components or consumer electronic devices.
- Knowledge of quality management system structures, quality procedures, and the application of typical quality tools in quality management practice (e.g., MSA, FA/CA, SPC, Yield Analysis, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to plan, execute, and present results from investigations using statistical analysis, and clearly communicate results and recommendations.
- Proven understanding of problem-solving tools including root cause analysis, design of experiments (DOE), and statistical process control principles.
- Knowledge of surface appearance measuring metrologies (color, gloss, texture, etc.).
- Knowledge of typical surface finish processes or technologies (i.e., blasting, anodizing, PVD, painting, coating, etc.).
- Solid understanding of mechanical properties of materials as they relate to manufacturing requirements and process drivers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese.
- Capable of managing ambiguity and working autonomously.
- Colorimetry/color science relevant experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with hands-on experience using JMP, Tableau, or Python is a plus.
