Description and Requirements
To help uphold Lenovo's core values of integrity and trust, we are seeking an experienced Investigator to join our global Ethics & Compliance team. This role plays a critical part in protecting Lenovo's culture by leading sensitive internal investigations, partnering with global stakeholders, and strengthening our Ethics & Compliance program. While this role will investigate a broad range of ethics and compliance matters, it will primarily lead investigations involving import/export and global trade compliance and therefore requires demonstrated experience in these areas. Based in China, this position reports to the Senior Manager, Investigations – Legal, Ethics & Compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
This role will support the success of the Ethics & Compliance program and have responsibility for the following initiatives:
- Independently lead comprehensive, objective, fact-based internal investigations into allegations of misconduct, policy violations, and potential legal or regulatory breaches.
- Lead investigations involving trade compliance, import/export compliance, customs, sanctions, export controls, and other international trade-related matters, while also leading investigations across the full spectrum of Ethics & Compliance matters.
- Conduct professional investigative interviews of personnel and third parties, which may involve sensitive topics.
- Author clear, detailed, objective, fact-based reports of assigned investigations, and maintain well-organized, accurate, and complete case files.
- Manage investigation case documentation within Lenovo's case management system, ensuring accurate and complete records.
- Support training initiatives on internal investigations for the company.
- Support drafting reports or communications regarding compliance investigations and other compliance-related current events to raise awareness and promote a speak-up culture.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with business functions, Lenovo's Investigation Oversight Committee, and members of Legal, Global Trade Compliance, Employee Relations, Internal Audit, IT, and Security.
- Work collaboratively with members of the Ethics & Compliance Office on various global initiatives to enhance the Ethics & Compliance program.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience independently leading investigations on behalf of a corporate legal team, compliance team, or a law enforcement agency.
- Demonstrated experience independently conducting investigations involving trade compliance, including import/export compliance, customs, sanctions, export controls, or other international trade compliance matters, is required.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Professional fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese (written and verbal) is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exceptional written and oral communication and organizational skills, including the ability to construct and deliver presentations.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple matters simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Proven ability to achieve objectives within a complex and matrixed organization.
- A collaborative team member that also works well independently.
- Ability and willingness to work extended hours to communicate with global teams.
- Prior experience in investigations related to ethics and compliance areas, including anti-bribery/anti-corruption, fraud, embezzlement, financial controls, conflicts of interest, harassment, fair competition, and trade compliance, import/export compliance, customs, sanctions, or export controls.
- Experience partnering with Legal, Global Trade Compliance, Employee Relations, Internal Audit, IT, Security, and other business functions in support of investigations is preferred.
- Demonstrated integrity and a commitment to the highest ethical standards and values, including proven ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment and discretion.
