Inventory Control Supervisor, Semi

Description

The Inventory Control Supervisor is the front-line leader of the Inventory Control team. They own inventory accuracy across warehouse, lineside, and yard by leading cycle counters, driving variance root-cause and closure, and partnering with Production Control, Warehouse, Quality, Finance, and Logistics. They communicate Safety, People, Quality, Rate, and Cost expectations; coach the team; and solve system-to-floor disconnects that put production at risk. The ideal candidate challenges the status quo, eliminates waste, and continuously improves count discipline and inventory controls.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day IC team performance (cycle counters/IC support): staffing, coaching, development, and shift coverage while owning the site cycle count program (ABC, ad hoc, financial, shortage, and variance counts) to hit accuracy and coverage targets
• Lead floor-to-system reconciliation in MFS by storage area and drive timely variance disposition
• Investigate and close variances (missed consumption, mis-labels, wrong putaway, transaction lag, quality holds, config/BOM issues) with clear root cause and corrective action
• Partner with PC Ops, Warehouse, Quality, Finance, and Logistics on discrepancies impacting production, replenishment, IPO/FO, and financial inventory
• Track and report inventory health metrics (completion, pending, variance $, aging, labor, accuracy) to leadership
• Drive standard work, training, and continuous improvement on count routes, tools/trackers, and transaction discipline while maintaining a safe workplace
• Tesla people leaders are responsible for a variety of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assurance functions, including ensuring their teams’ safety training is current, documenting EHS incidents, proactively correcting workplace hazards in the areas, and empowering others to continuously improve operations

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a fast-paced warehouse, manufacturing, or distribution environment (automotive preferred)
• 3+ years leading hourly teams in inventory control, warehouse, production control, or materials
• Hands-on experience with cycle counting, inventory accuracy programs, and variance root-cause analysis
• Working knowledge of TPS/Lean, Min/Max, and materials flow in a JIT environment
• Experience with WMS/MES/ERP inventory systems (MFS, SAP, or equivalent); able to read location qty and trace transactions
• Advanced Excel (lookups, pivots, trackers) and strong Microsoft Office skills
• Proven leadership, cross-functional communication, and ability to balance planned counts with urgent shortage/variance priorities; flexible on shift as needed
