You listen and deliver what is most helpful for the customer. You assist fellow sales Googlers by problem-solving key technical issues for our customers. You liaise with the product marketing management and engineering teams to stay on top of industry trends and devise enhancements to Google Cloud products.
As a Customer Engineer, you will partner with technical Sales teams to differentiate Google Cloud and our unique Google Public Sector offerings for our state/local government and education customers. You will empower agencies, cities, counties, universities and colleges to harness the full potential of the Google ecosystem by designing creative, agentic AI solutions that solve complex institutional challenges.
Moving beyond traditional data lifecycles, you will lead proofs of concept and guide technical strategy to build proactive, autonomous AI agents and intelligent data ecosystems that transform the student, researcher, and administrative experience. Leveraging your technical expertise and compelling presentation skills, you will engage with government leaders to translate their academic requirements into visionary, highly automated, and practical architectures tailored for the public sector.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.US: $127000 - $184000 (USD) + 42.86% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Sales team to uncover and qualify Google Cloud and AI-first opportunities, proactively addressing technical objections around adoption, and developing strategic pathways to clear technical blockers.
- Own the technical relationship with our State and Local Government customers, leading immersive product briefings on Google Cloud and Google's GenAI portfolio, driving innovative, agentic proof-of-concept (PoC) work, and orchestrating specialized technical resources across GPS.
- Demonstrate and rapidly prototype intelligent integrations, bringing autonomous agents and AI-powered workflows to life directly within complex customer and partner environments.
- Design and recommend AI-optimized enterprise architectures and integration strategies, laying the secure platform and data infrastructure foundations required to deploy comprehensive, forward-looking solutions using Google Cloud best practices.
- Travel to customer sites, industry conferences, and related events as required to advocate Google Public Sector's aim and engage directly with government leaders.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 years of experience with cloud native architecture in a customer-facing or support role.
- Experience engaging with, and presenting to, technical stakeholders and executive leaders.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure engineering, on-premise infrastructure engineering, virtualization, or containerization platforms.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with state local public sector clients including state, county, and local municipal agencies.
- Experience in migrating applications and services to cloud platforms.
- Experience with security concepts such as encryption, identity management, access control, attack vectors, and engagement testing.
- Experience with networking concepts such as software-defined networking, routing, virtual private networks, load balancers and firewalls.
- Experience creating demos and solution creation using generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and services.
- Ability to learn, understand, and work with emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in the Google Cloud/IT technology space.
