Applied Scientist, AWS Security

As an Applied Scientist on our team, you'll analyze data using GenAI and other AI/ML techniques to build and deploy services that detect and automate the mitigation of cybersecurity threats across Amazon's infrastructure. You'll work with software development engineers, security engineers, and fellow scientists to develop innovative security solutions at massive scale. Our services protect the AWS cloud for all customers, helping preserve our customers' trust in us. You'll get to use the full power and breadth of AWS technologies, including Amazon SageMaker, Bedrock, and EMR, to build services that proactively protect every single AWS customer from security threats.
A successful candidate is one who is passionate about utilizing big data, machine learning, and GenAI to solve real security problems. This role gives you the opportunity to drive technical innovation within threat detection and mitigation. Candidates are expected to have a track record of delivering high-quality results in a fast-moving environment and a high coding bar for building production-grade ML systems.

Key job responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy AI/ML systems that process threat data at scale, running over large-scale security logs with real-time inference
- Expand and improve existing LLM agent pipelines for automated threat detection and response
- Conduct thorough data analyses and develop prototypes for detecting otherwise-unknown security problems
- Analyze post-mortems to understand what data signals could have prevented the occurrence
- Build data pipelines and ETL processes to handle massive security datasets

Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of building models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Unix/Linux
- Experience in professional software development
- Knowledge of architectural concepts and algorithms, schedule tradeoffs and new opportunities with technical team members

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
