GDC Storage includes all aspects of a large enterprise storage system - high performance block storage, shared file storage, and large-scale object storage along with support for backup and restore functions. GDC is focusing on large-scale deployments in highly secure and sovereign environments. Storage plays a critical role in these systems for data protection.

As Director, you will be responsible for this complete storage portfolio in GDC. You will be responsible for strategy, planning, and execution for Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) Storage and Data Protection.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $294,000-$414,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead a software engineering team of software engineers across 3 sites, and oversee a portfolio of GDC storage components. Partner with third-party storage system vendors in developing a large-scale solution.
  • Work cross-functionally within the broader engineering community and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to deliver solutions for our customers.
    Partner closely with cross-functional leads to define the future outlook, strategy, and solutions for GDC Storage.
  • Collaborate with multiple stakeholders across Google, including executive leaders within Cloud to influence infrastructure offerings. 
  • Contribute to the long-term strategy and innovation of Google Cloud Storage and infrastructure.  
  • Be a strategic thought leader and work closely with customer-facing Googlers, partners, and customers themselves, to ensure we continue to meaningfully reduce friction and thus drive adoption.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of experience delivering hyperscale cloud services to enterprise customers with distributed compute environments with a focused on storage and platform development
  • 15 years of experience working with supplier and partner teams to build solutions that harness capabilities created outside their direct sphere of influence
  • Experience managing third-party vendors and enabling solutions in a product portfolio

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with “big picture” strategy thinking, enabling teams to deliver management solutions that are effective at scale
  • Experience operating within and leading cross-functional teams
  • Experience working with external partners, developing relationships, and negotiating focusing on storage products
  • Ability to develop joint business plans in complex, ambiguous environments, influence/collaborate across organizations, and drive business success internally and for the customer
  • Ability to translate complexity and explain sophisticated analysis and methodologies to both engineering and business stakeholders
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, stakeholder management skills, and ability to grow in a fast-paced, cross-functional, global team environment
