Regional Safety Engineer, Data Center Health and Safety
Join the world-class safety culture at Amazon Web Services (AWS) and be part of supporting the largest cloud computing infrastructure team as a Regional Safety Engineer. In this role, you'll own the Health and Safety function for your respective area, working directly with the data center engineers who make the cloud go—the people working with electrical switching equipment, large-scale air handling mechanical systems, and critical IT gear.
As a Regional Safety Engineer you'll be at the forefront of managing complex safety and risk programs where strategy is defined, but solutions are yours to create. This role offers the unique opportunity to work independently while collaborating with diverse teams—from data center operations to security, compliance and corporate counsel—to advance AWS's global health and safety program.
Key job responsibilities
Own Regional Health & Safety Operations - Lead the Health and Safety function for your region, improving data center safety and protecting employees. Partner with employees and contractors to achieve safety goals and strengthen our safety culture. Serve as subject matter expert on safety trends and regulatory compliance.
Strategic Risk Assessment & Mitigation - Identify, assess, and mitigate safety hazards in data center environments. Measure and test safety processes to inform risk assessments. Drive regulation-based safety outcomes and make data-driven recommendations on risk tolerance levels.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Influence - Collaborate with data center engineers, operations, security, compliance, and corporate counsel. Work with external regulators to ensure compliance. Contribute to safety-related policies and standards.
Process Excellence & Safety Culture Advancement - Drive operational excellence and improve safety program quality. Foster continuous improvement and safety compliance culture.
Communication & Leadership - Deliver compelling safety information using incident reports, written narratives and oral arguments. Manage safety program schedules and mentor others while participating in recruiting.

Working backward from the needs of Operations, we take end-to-end responsibility for delivering regional safety programs that protect people while minimizing operational disruption. We dive deep into data center workflows, hazards, and inter dependencies to implement effective controls. Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- Knowledge of global environmental, health and safety regulations
- Experience in ownership of projects and communicating timelines and executing independently
- Experience working with cross-functional teams
- 3+ years of risk management or safety management experience in industrial, construction, data center, or similar high-hazard environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience communicating and presenting to senior leadership

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
