Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians.

Through your leadership, you use your technical expertise to lead cross-functional teams to develop infrastructure improvements. You manage a team of engineers and assign Googlers to projects based on their capabilities and the project's demands.

The Research and Development (R&D) Engineering team leads the design for Google’s global data center components from the utility to the IT rack. As the Regional R&D Lead for APAC, you will be the point of contact for designs and components localized to Asia Pacific region.

In this role, you will be responsible for leveraging Google’s unique strengths by partnering with Regional Engineering execution and delivery, construction, operations, platforms, supply chain partner teams to drive programs to completion and distill lessons learned and best practices related to designs and components.

You will also collaborate, lead and inspire regionally optimized design solutions that improve speed to capacity, and lower costs while maintaining safety and security governance requirements, coordinating closely with other Regional R&D Leads and central R&D teams.

The AI and Infrastructure team is redefining what’s possible. We empower Google customers with breakthrough capabilities and insights by delivering AI and Infrastructure at unparalleled scale, efficiency, reliability and velocity. Our customers include Googlers, Google Cloud customers, and billions of Google users worldwide.

We're the driving force behind Google's groundbreaking innovations, empowering the development of our cutting-edge AI models, delivering unparalleled computing power to global services, and providing the essential platforms that enable developers to build the future. From software to hardware our teams are shaping the future of world-leading hyperscale computing, with key teams working on the development of our TPUs, Vertex AI for Google Cloud, Google Global Networking, Data Center operations, systems research, and much more.

Responsibilities

  • Define data center system-level, product architecture, and Research and Development, while helping to develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
  • Localize system-level architectures for new Data Center designs, products and ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns, etc.).
  • Report and synthesize on regional constraints, requirements, and best practices in Data Center design and constructability.
  • Coordinate between local engineering execution teams, construction and site acquisition partner teams, and central (U.S.. based) R&D Engineering leads.
  • Lead a team of individuals, set and communicate individual and team priorities that support organizational goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance, development, and provide feedback and coaching.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
  • Experience working with cross-discipline teams (e.g. structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, architectural).
  • Experience in people management with an emphasis on technical leadership.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field or a professional engineering license or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience in leading a data center facility and equipment design with multiple iterations of delivering exceptional solutions to production.
  • Experience with cross-functional teams (e.g., structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, architectural).
  • Experience with complex, multi-discipline engineering projects.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and succeed at a fast pace of change.
  • Ability to work within large, global, fast faced and cross-functional engineering organizations.
