About the team and the role:

Global Consumer Insights is part of eBay’s Growth organization and plays a critical role in shaping how eBay builds its brand, drives demand, and fuels long-term growth. We partner closely with Marketing, Product, Analytics, and Market teams to ensure decisions are grounded in a deep understanding of consumers and the dynamics that influence their behavior.

The Global Consumer Insights Director will report to the VP of Global Consumer Insights, and lead a team responsible for delivering insights that inform enterprise growth priorities and marketing performance. This role is central to eBay’s key brand and growth decisions. It transforms complex consumer data into clear guidance on where to play, how to win, and how to optimize marketing investment. You will act as a trusted thought partner to senior leaders, shaping strategy through strong consultation, storytelling, and consumer-centric leadership.

What you will accomplish:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of research and insights professionals to deliver consumer insights that directly inform global marketing strategy and enterprise growth decisions.

  • Build a deep, forward-looking understanding of consumers—connecting current growth opportunities with insights into emerging segments and future audience needs.

  • Design and evolve global research programs and proprietary tools that guide brand positioning, value proposition development, and marketing performance optimization.

  • Translate complex quantitative and qualitative data into compelling, executive-ready narratives that illuminate opportunities, risks, and strategic trade-offs.

  • Partner closely with global and regional Marketing, Brand, Product, and Analytics teams to ensure insights drive alignment, prioritization, and measurable business outcomes.

  • Provide senior-level consultation and thought leadership, influencing decisions through a strong point of view and a clear articulation of the consumer voice.

What you will bring:

  • 12+ years of experience in market research, consumer insights, or a related subject area, with a strong focus on marketing, brand, or growth strategy.

  • Proven experience leading and developing teams, with the ability to inspire, coach, and scale impact through others.

  • Deep expertise in value proposition research, strategic brand positioning, and marketing campaign development and measurement.

  • Strong consultative skills, including the ability to shape ambiguous business questions into focused research strategies that drive action.

  • Advanced quantitative and qualitative research expertise, with a track record of distilling complex data into clear, actionable recommendations.

  • Excellent executive communication skills, including experience presenting to and influencing senior leadership in a highly matrixed, global organization.

  • Bachelor’s degree in market research, statistics, economics, or a related field; advanced degree or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Flexible location for the right candidate, with willingness to travel occasionally to the San Francisco Bay Area and other locations as needed.
