Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud.  Within CO&I, the Global Project Controls (GPC) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The Microsoft portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services. 

The Construction Metro Director will lead construction project management across multiple datacenter and campus projects in North Rhine-Westphalia, ensuring the portfolio meets Microsoft’s safety, quality, schedule, and cost targets.

Responsibilities

Project Management 

· Oversees the team's deployment of large-scale, campus, and/or regionally-based delivery solutions (e.g., new and/or retrofit data center solutions) while also socializing with regional and global leaders. Sets goals for internal and external project teams under their purview of responsibility, delegates responsibilities measures performance against contracted Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and seeks and delivers feedback to achieve timely results. 

Technical Acumen 

· Analyzes and recommends innovative delivery options utilizing best practices and trends, supports the development and implementation of all organizational procedures and standards, and ensures they are followed by all team members and vendors.

Safety and Regulation 

· Manages and advocates for safe worksites by adhering to organizational and industry procedures. Reviews prior audit results and relevant legislation in order to recommend and manage safety compliance. Shares lessons learned with relevant stakeholders. 

Risk Mitigation 

· Establishes, reviews, approves, and communicates risk mitigation goals and develops metrics, dashboards and/or scorecards to drive progress. Analyzes safety metrics and communicates and applies results to drive project action and individual development to lower-level staff and vendors. 

Vendor Management 

· Directs and oversees the management of vendors, ensuring compliance with contracts and prior audit results. Controls vendor performance relative to cash flow and budget summaries (with cost management support). Provides direction and correction to vendors and internal support teams as needed. 

Financial Acumen 

· Oversees the creation and application of best practices for identifying and driving cost-effective solutions for the strategic and tactical delivery of a construction project. 

Budget and Controls 

· Develops, manages, and reports on the scope, schedule, and budget of the project. Oversees and implements project controls in work activities (e.g., project expenditure requests (PERs), Professional Service Requests (PSRs), change orders, and pay applications). 


Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND significant related experience

OR equivalent experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND significant related experience

o OR equivalent experience.

Solid experience working on data center projects.

Solid project management experience.

Solid people management experience.

German Language Proficiency - B2 or higher.

Background Check Requirements: 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: 

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Construction Project Management M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across Germany is € 131,700.00 - € 252,500.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
