As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you will contribute to a global team working across various regions, product areas, and functions. This role requires a blend of creativity, intellectual and strong organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects, and initiatives. You will be responsible for advocating for Google's interests and integrating external perspectives to shape our company's direction. This role involves collaborating with Google Cloud and other internal teams to address government affairs and public policy matters within Google Cloud's key state and local markets. You will serve as Google Cloud's representative to state and local policymakers, IT decision-makers, and government executives. A crucial aspect of this position is working with Google Cloud stakeholders to support business growth and public policy objectives at the state and local levels, proactively addressing both risks and opportunities. You will also engage with key trade associations vital for advancing Google Cloud’s public policy and business goals in the government sector. Familiarity with all facets of Google Cloud’s state and local business is essential. You will collaborate with our data center and energy teams to align on priorities and support political engagements. This includes advancing legislative efforts that enable Google to build data centers, power essential technology and services, continue community investment, and lead the industry in data security and sustainability. Additionally, you will directly partner with relevant Google Cloud Sales and support teams in your region to develop and execute strategies that foster business growth.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $182,000-$249,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead Google Cloud's policy and government affairs strategy for assigned regional states.
  • Manage and coordinate a network of contract lobbyists and public affairs firms to advance proactive policy engagement.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with governors’ offices, state legislators, local elected officials, state agencies, and local permitting authorities.
  • Ensure alignment of business priorities, public policy goals, and go-to-market strategies across government affairs and Google cloud.
  • Provide advice to executives on regional policy, ensuring alignment with Google Cloud's products and overall strategy.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience working in public affairs, political communications, or political campaigns, or within government.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in technology policy, specifically within state and local government, an enterprise software company, think tanks, public interest groups, or relevant industry associations.
  • 2 years of direct experience with or in state and local governments, particularly involving enterprise technology services or energy issues.
  • Experience with government procurement processes.
