Thermal Senior Engineer

About the role

Thermal control engineers lead and deliver the development of innovative and efficient thermal control solutions for platforms and rack solutions spanning AI, Cloud, High Performance Computing (HPC), Edge computing devices and enterprise networking, server and storage products. This may include (but not limited to), defining thermal controls algorithm as it pertains to air and liquid cooling servers, rack level controls solutions, understanding and implementation of data management protocols (within and outside of the server) for thermal management needs, data analysis and debugging system behaviours and finding solutions during development as well as post product shipping.

Join us to do the best work of your career and make a profound social impact as a Systems Development Engineer on our Mechanical Engineering Team in Taipei, Taiwan.

What you’ll achieve

As a Thermal Controls Engineer, you will work with a cross-functional engineering team to deliver advanced cooling solutions for AI, HPC, and enterprise server markets.  Your thermal controls experience will enable the latest  technologies from CPU and GPU vendors, networking, memory, and storage systems.  . Your primary responsibility will be to translate thermal engineering and related physics-challenges into robust, adaptable algorithms for thermal management of Dell server platforms (optimal fan control for cooling efficiency, failure detection and alarms, error mitigation, leak detection and mitigation of liquid cooled servers) as well as rack level solutions (CDUs, RDHx, thermal data and metrics telemetry and systems to rack level cooling efficiency optimizations)..

You will:

  • Work with our global systems management software and thermal controls team to design, document, implement, and validate thermal control algorithm features.
  • Assist with debugging and validation of thermal control features on functional server hardware.
  • Setup servers with desired hardware and software configurations for debugging and validation of thermal control features.
  • Assist with debugging, tracking, and routing field issues when necessary.
  • Develop and/or modify existing software tools to help with thermal controls design, format conversion, and validation.

Essential Requirements

  • 5+ years of industry experience in mechatronics, thermal controls, electronics cooling, hardware/firmware debugging,
  • Proficient with operation and components of a server software stack (BIOS, CPLD, BMC, drivers)
  • Strong experience with Linux, good experience with general OS principles.
  • Highly motivated to solve problems independently and drive solutions
  • Good team player who loves to collaborate and create success opportunities for self and the team.
  • Strong communication skills

Desirable Requirements

  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a focus in controls or mechatronics.
  • Energetic computer hardware and software enthusiast with industry awareness of hardware and software domains.
  • Proficient in a computer programming languages like Python, C, C++ or similar.
  • MATLAB or other controls simulation software experience a plus.
  • Hands on experience with set up, operation, and debugging of computer systems, ideally Server Systems (hardware and software).
  • Experience with design and implementation of electronic cooling solutions from hardware to firmware.
