
Service Lead

At Flexdrive, we're at the forefront of revolutionizing transportation by building the operational backbone for autonomous vehicle (AV) fleets. As a leader in fleet management, we're leveraging our expertise to enter the AV space, forming strategic partnerships with cutting-edge technology providers. We're looking for dedicated team members to help us pioneer this new chapter, starting with our first AV depot in Nashville, Tennessee.
Responsibilities:
Technical Team Management:
- Availability: Schedules may include weekends and holidays based on depot operational requirements.
- Specialized Technician Oversight: Lead and develop up to 4 specialized technicians, ensuring proper skill development, certification maintenance, and performance optimization across all shifts.
- Workflow Distribution: Manage and optimize repair workflows across technician teams, balancing workload, prioritizing critical repairs, and ensuring SLA compliance for all maintenance activities.
- Vendor Management: Coordinate with OEM dealerships, third-party repair facilities, and specialized service providers, serving as technical liaison and ensuring vendor compliance with partner standards.
- Performance Management: Conduct regular performance reviews, skills assessments, and development planning for technical staff, fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement and technical excellence.
Training Program Development & Delivery:
- Lead Instructor Role: Serve as qualified Lead Instructor with active qualifications, completing partner Train-the-Trainer certification programs and maintaining expertise in all technical areas of instruction.
- Training Delivery Excellence: Deliver training and assessments per partner requirements, including web-based modules, hands-on demonstrations, OJT checklists, and skills assessments for all maintenance-related qualifications.
- Curriculum Development: Create and maintain training materials for technician, management, materials coordination, and calibration qualifications, ensuring alignment with partner operations training manuals.
Fleet Health & Maintenance Operations:
- Fleet Performance Optimization: Monitor and improve key metrics including Mean Time to Recovery, Vehicle Turnaround Time, and Diagnosis Escalation Rate.
- Service Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control processes ensuring all maintenance work meets partner specifications and safety standards.
- Maintenance Planning: Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules, manage maintenance change requests, and ensure compliance with partner fleet management system requirements.
- Technical Problem Resolution: Lead root cause analysis for complex technical issues, implement corrective actions, and develop preventive measures to reduce repeat failures.
Parts & Materials Oversight:
- Service and Parts Coordinator Management: Directly supervise parts and service writing coordination, ensuring seamless integration between parts allocation, work order documentation, and inventory management while maintaining accuracy and compliance standards.
- Supply Chain Coordination: Oversee Material Coordinator activities, ensuring optimal parts inventory levels, secure storage of proprietary components, and compliance with chain of custody standards.
- Inventory Optimization: Analyze parts consumption patterns, forecast requirements, and coordinate with partner aftermarket teams to prevent stockouts while minimizing carrying costs.
- Vendor Parts Management: Manage relationships with parts suppliers, negotiate service agreements, and ensure timely delivery of critical components.
- Non-Conforming Parts Process: Oversee quarantine and disposition procedures for non-conforming parts, ensuring proper documentation and handling.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Training Compliance: Ensure all personnel maintain required qualifications through partner learning management systems, conducting monthly verification reviews per standards.
- Safety Program Integration: Collaborate with the safety team to ensure all maintenance activities comply with EHS requirements, including battery safety, hazardous materials handling, and hot work procedures.
- Documentation Management: Maintain comprehensive documentation hierarchy including job descriptions, safety protocols, training records, and maintenance logs per partner requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all technical operations meet federal, state, and local regulations including EPA, OSHA, and AV-specific requirements.
Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement:
- Operational Excellence: Drive continuous improvement initiatives, analyzing performance data to identify optimization opportunities and implement best practices across technical operations.
- Capacity Planning: Forecast staffing needs, training requirements, and infrastructure upgrades to support fleet growth and operational scaling.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Operations Manager, Depot Operations Leads, and partner technical teams to ensure seamless integration of maintenance and depot operations.
- Knowledge Management: Establish and maintain technical knowledge base, documenting lessons learned, best practices, and troubleshooting guides for common issues.
- Culture of Safety: Champion a comprehensive culture of safety through proactive engagement. Leading by example in following all safety requirements; educating the team on safety protocols; proactively identifying risks; managing incidents, including reporting and investigation.
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- 4+ years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance management, automotive service operations, or technical training leadership.
- 3+ years of experience managing technical teams including hiring, training, performance management, and development of skilled technicians.
- 2+ years of experience developing and delivering technical training programs, preferably in automotive or fleet maintenance environments.
- Proven expertise in electric vehicle systems, diagnostic procedures, and advanced automotive technologies (AV experience highly preferred).
- Strong understanding of maintenance management systems, KPI tracking, and data-driven decision making for fleet operations.
- Experience with vendor management, contract negotiation, and third-party service provider oversight.
- Demonstrated success implementing quality management systems, safety management systems and continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean preferred).
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to interface effectively with technical teams, executive leadership, and external partners.
- Current ASE certifications preferred; ability to obtain required partner certifications within 90 days.
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record.

The expected base pay range for this position in the Nashville area is $72,160 - $90,200. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
