Meta is seeking a highly motivated and experienced attorney for the role of Director & Associate General Counsel, Law Enforcement Investigations. The successful candidate will partner with investigators to prevent harm, protect user rights, privacy, and safety, and address integrity challenges through innovative legal and technical solutions. The role involves addressing complex, novel legal issues within a demanding, fast-paced global environment.

Responsibilities

Lead and advise on investigations into on-platform abuse, including complex matters related to terrorism, threats of violence, child safety, human exploitation, and fraud/scams Counsel integrity teams on investigations, crisis response, and information-sharing initiatives Ensure all investigative activities strictly comply with applicable laws, regulations, and Meta's policies Advise on user data disclosure and security matters, domestically and internationally Manage and retain outside counsel for specialized matters Collaborate with integrity teams on after-action reviews and the remediation of security risks Advise business partners on data security matters, proposed policies, and user data governance Partner with engineering and business teams to design and implement innovative privacy and security solutions, specifically those supporting integrity and investigative efforts This role requires global travel and availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays to support urgent global matters and collaboration This role may involve exposure to potentially graphic and/or objectionable content including but not limited to graphic images, videos, audio and writings, offensive or derogatory language, and other potential objectionable material, i.e. child exploitation, graphic violence, self-injury, animal abuse, and other content which may be considered offensive or disturbing

Qualifications

J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) Active membership in at least one US state bar and eligibility to obtain registered in-house counsel status (if required by the State Bar in the assigned work location) 12+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in-house or government experience 8+ years experience litigating criminal cases or providing legal advice to law enforcement 5+ years direct experience in investigations or advising investigative teams Experience advising on data protection, privacy, or matters related to the Stored Communications Act (SCA) Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills Effective communication skills Ability to work with potentially graphic and objectionable content Prior experience as a prosecutor investigating serious crimes such as child safety threats, terrorism, or human exploitation Proven experience in crisis management Technical fluency relevant to conducting online investigations Experience addressing policy issues related to technical investigations, online abuse, and/or privacy Experience working with data protection authorities, financial institutions, and internet industry associations Fluency in multiple languages

Compensation: $282,000/year to $356,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
