Meta is seeking an Firmware/Electrical Engineer to join our Data Center Robotics Engineering team. This team is dedicated to implementing cutting-edge robotics technologies to enable efficient and operationally safer data centers. The Robotics Firmware/Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, manufacturing, deployment, and sustaining of robotics hardware solutions throughout the product life cycles to enable physical automation within Meta data centers. This role collaborates closely with software and system engineers to ensure seamless product integration, thus enhancing operational efficiency and reducing risks across Meta’s infrastructure. The ideal candidate has proven experience in embedded development with firmware development and prototyping electronics. They demonstrate expertise in programming languages such as Python, C/C++ and have practical robotics experience in linux, developing firmware for microcontrollers, and prototyping electronics. They excel in system-level thinking, developing key electrical architectures from scratch and anticipating the needs of hardware-software integration. They are proactive problem solvers, adapt effectively in dynamic environments and passionate about leveraging emerging technologies to drive innovation in robotics. This candidate must possess proven experience in communication, leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills, plus experience in engineering, program management and analytical skills. This role requires an experienced, dedicated professional to effectively collaborate and influence internal stakeholders, including cross-functional teams and individuals of all levels. Responsibilities

For this role we are looking for a generalist able to contribute to multiple parts of our embedded stack Architect and build the electrical system for autonomous mobile robots Architect and develop firmware for motor controllers, sensor interfaces, and communication systems Implement the ROS2 nodes for power distribution, data collection, and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) safety systems Analyze, understand, and mitigate firmware and electrical related field issues Work closely with Software, Electrical, Mechnical and Systems teams to deliver fully functioning robot prototypes and production units

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent Minimum of 6 years industry experience Expert in C/C++, python skills with experience in embedded systems development Understanding of Linux OS and distributions Understanding of real-time control loops and timing constraints Experience with all sorts of industrial automation systems and robotics including actuator selection, sensor integration, microcontrollers, linux systems, inter-device communication Experience in debugging communication protocols such as CAN, I2C, UART, SPI, etc Industrial experience with electrical layout, PCB design Skilled in effective communication across electrical, mechanical, and software domains to investigate and understand underlying design interfaces Ability to take an abstract problem and break it down into an implementable system - starting with a scrappy approach and progressively building it up into a sophisticated solution Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or equivalent with 6+ years of industry experience Extensive experience in the design and development of complex robotics systems, including mobile platforms (robot base, robot mast), articulated robot arms, grippers etc Experience with sensor integration and calibration for robotics applications, including vision systems, LiDAR, and inertial measurement units (IMUs) Familiarity with motion control systems and robotics programming languages such as ROS (Robot Operating System) or similar frameworks Knowledge of safety standards and regulations applicable to robotics systems, such as UL583 and ANSI B56 Experience in project management or leadership roles, including the experience in leading cross-functional teams and drive projects to successful completion

Compensation: $144,000/year to $204,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
