Software Engineer, gTech Users and Products Engineering
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.
In gTech Users and Products (gUP), our mission is to advocate for Google’s users by creating helpful and trusted experiences across the product ecosystem. We achieve this by meeting partners and consumers where they are with support and help, representing their needs with our product partners and proposing fixes and features that elevate their engagement with Google's diverse product ecosystem. Additionally we provide a range of product services that ensure our products are optimized for every user, no matter where they are in the world (e.g., localization, digitization, partner integration and more).
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy features and enhancements for the Guided Support Experience (GSE) platform; writing clean, efficient, and well-tested code.
- Collaborate with GSE lead (PM, UX, Analysts) to analyze user behavior and data, translating insights into technical improvements that optimize the self-help journey and support various product verticals.
- Contribute to improving code health, test coverage, monitoring, and overall system reliability of the GSE platform to ensure a high-quality user experience.
- Work closely with product managers, UX designers, content strategists, operations, and engineers from other teams across gUP and Google to deliver integrated and effective help solutions.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or other related technical field.
- Experience working in external code bases or transitioning large-scale project ownership.
- Experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across boundaries.
- Passion for consumer products, customer support, next-gen technologies.
