Network Engineer, Operations & Support (OSP)
Description
You will play a key role in operating Meta’s Outside Plant (OSP) network infrastructure, with primary responsibility for directing, coordinating, and validating work performed by field vendors. This role is execution-focused from an operations leadership and technical oversight perspective, ensuring reliable fiber and optical connectivity across Meta’s production environments. You are expected to own scoped operational domains, provide clear technical direction to vendors, and ensure work is executed safely, correctly, and to Meta standards.
Responsibilities
Provide technical direction to field vendors performing OSP fiber deployment, maintenance, and repair, including conduit systems, handholes, meet-me vaults, meet-me-rooms, and inter-site fiber connectivity Lead optical fault isolation and restoration efforts by directing vendor diagnostics and repair actions Review and validate vendor-performed optical testing (e.g., OTDR, LS/PM, VFL) to confirm fiber health and repair quality Own and validate fiber splicing activities (single fiber and ribbon) performed by vendors Support network builds, expansions, and migrations by coordinating vendor execution and validating OSP readiness Direct vendors during turn-ups, fiber remediations and post-deployment validation activities Ensure OSP assets, fiber routes, and test results are accurately documented and handed off to operations Participate in on-call rotations and lead OSP-related incident response by coordinating vendor engagement and restoration efforts Drive timely restoration by managing priorities, validating corrective actions, and escalating as needed Contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions to reduce repeat incidents and improve reliability Act as the technical point of contact for OSP vendors and field service providers Ensure vendor work meets Meta’s quality, safety, and documentation standards Identify execution gaps, recurring issues, or Service Level Agreement (SLA) risks and raise them through appropriate channels Partner with Network Engineering, Deployment Engineering, and Operations teams to align on execution plans and operational priorities Communicate clearly during incidents and planned work, providing status, risks, and mitigation plans to stakeholders
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience 7+ years experience supporting OSP fiber and optical infrastructure through vendor-based execution models Understanding of optical fiber testing and troubleshooting (OTDR, LS/PM, VFL) sufficient to review and validate results Experience directing or overseeing fiber splicing and restoration activities Experience operating in incident-based, on-call environments Proven experience working effectively with vendors and external service providers 10+ years experience supporting large-scale OSP fiber networks across multiple sites or regions, including coordination of vendor-based deployment and repair activities Working knowledge of optical form factors (e.g., SFP, QSFP) and how they are applied across OSP, DC, and edge network environments Experience reviewing and validating optical test results (OTDR traces, LS/PM readings) to assess fiber health, identify faults, and confirm quality of restoration work Familiarity with fiber splicing practices (single fiber and ribbon) sufficient to direct vendor execution and validate workmanship and documentation Experience operating within Service Level Agreement (SLA)–based support models, including managing response expectations, escalation paths, and restoration timelines Exposure to vendor performance management, including identifying execution gaps, recurring issues, and opportunities for quality or process improvement Experience supporting incident response and on-call operations, including coordinating vendors under time pressure and communicating clearly with stakeholders Experience with GIS-Based OSP documentation standards, asset tracking, and operational handoff requirements Experience providing clear technical direction to vendors and concise status updates to cross-functional partners Demonstrated interest in improving operational maturity, reliability, and repeatability through better processes, documentation, or tooling
