Staff Software Engineer, Data Center Resource Modeling

We are seeking a highly talented and experienced lead engineer to join our growing team which focuses on designing and building our next generation data center resource modeling platform. This platform is essential for managing the Google-wide fleet deployment planning and execution, and modeling hardware across all machine racks and internal components. It enables us to plan future capacity, monitor the data center hardware and manage the life-cycle of machines in the datacenter at scale while reducing the total cost of operations. In this role, you will lead the architectural goal, define the team's roadmap and priorities, and drive continued innovation and scalability for new hardware platforms while significantly reducing the total cost of operations.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
- Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
- Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
- Assess impact to team software stack from new hardware product programs and explore AI driven process improvement and automation.
- Establish technology and product goals in collaboration with other tech leads, managers, partners, clients, and senior leadership. Grow technical skills within the team.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in programming.
- 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
- 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
- 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
- Experience with distributed computing, large-scale data processing.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
8 years of experience programming in C++ or Java.
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
- 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
- Experience with data center architecture and technology.
