Manager, Consumer & Cultural Communications
At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to achieve this by cultivating a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive.
We're looking for a creative communications strategist who lives at the intersection of culture, buzz, and earned media. This role isn't about traditional PR—it's about making Lyft the brand people love and prefer, and ensuring Lyft is in the right cultural conversations. You'll orchestrate breakthrough moments that drive organic buzz, shape cultural conversations, and transform everyday Lyft experiences into share-worthy stories.
Reporting to the Director of Brand, Product and Consumer Communications, you'll be our cultural architect—someone who understands how to create authentic moments that resonate across social feeds, group chats, and mainstream media simultaneously.
The Impact You'll Have
This role directly influences how millions of people perceive and talk about Lyft. You'll help transform us from a utility into a brand people feel connected to—driving not just rides, but conversations. Your work will make Lyft the obvious choice by making us the brand people choose to talk about, share, and advocate for.
Responsibilities:
- Integrate Products Into Conversations: Incorporate new and existing products into ongoing cultural conversations, working in partnership with product and marketing to drive the newsworthiness of Lyft product and brand into consumers’ everyday lives.
- Drive Cultural Relevance: Identify and activate against cultural moments, trends, and conversations where Lyft can authentically participate and lead.
- Create Breakthrough Campaigns: Conceive and execute brand relevant activations that generate earned media coverage and organic word-of-mouth.
- Build Community Movements: Transform Lyft riders, drivers, and fans into brand advocates through innovative engagement strategies.
- Orchestrate Grassroots Moments: Design PR moments that are inherently grassroots and community driven—from street-level activations to digital experiences that demand sharing.
- Connect Dots Across Channels: Seamlessly blend earned media, social content, celebrity and influencer partnerships, and community engagement into cohesive narratives.
- Speed & Agility: Lead rapid-response efforts to cultural moments, turning trending topics into brand opportunities within hours, not days.
- Measure What Matters: Track and report on cultural impact metrics beyond traditional PR—from social sentiment to share of voice in culture.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in communications, with proven success in consumer campaigns and viral activation.
- Track record of creating buzzworthy moments that drove both social engagement and earned media coverage.
- Deep understanding of internet culture, social platforms, and how communities form and share content.
- Experience with non-traditional PR tactics—from experiential marketing to creator partnerships to cause-driven campaigns.
- Natural storyteller who can spot the human angle in any product or feature.
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and ability to move fast when cultural moments emerge.
- Strong cross-functional partnership skills—you'll work with product, marketing, social, and policy teams daily.
- You're Right for This If You:
- Have examples of campaigns that exploded into mainstream consciousness.
- Can point to specific cultural moments you've helped brands authentically join or create.
- Understand the difference between manufacturing buzz and facilitating genuine community excitement.
- Think in content formats, not just press releases.
- Get equally excited about a TikTok trend and a Today Show placement.
- Can sell creative, sometimes unconventional ideas to senior stakeholders.
Benefits:
- Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options with additional programs available when enrolled
- Mental health benefits
- Family building benefits
- Child care and pet benefits
- 401(k) plan with company match to help save for your future
- In addition to 12 observed holidays, salaried team members have discretionary paid time off, hourly team members have 15 days paid time off
- 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible
- Subsidized commuter benefits
- Monthly Lyft credits and complimentary Lyft Pink membership
