As a Storage Test and Qualification Engineer, you will qualify new Hard Disk Drive, Solid-state Drive (HDDs, SSDs), Tape media and all of the supporting software stack behind them, for successful usage in Google data centers.

You will plan for and execute these tests at scale in the most effective way possible. Work closely with development engineers, you will give inputs on designs to improve our hardware and systems until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality, reliability, and security.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Create test plans, coordinate resources across test environments, and perform system-level functional, performance, and reliability testing for storage appliances and devices such as HDDs, SSDs, IO controllers, and Tape media.
  • Analyze results to ensure that they meet Google's requirements and collaborate with ODMs/JDMs to ensure that the validation is up to Google standards.
  • Report bugs and drive corrective action where needed with external suppliers and internal development teams.
  • Communicate status updates to cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Organize data and incorporate learnings to maintain and improve the qualification process.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a Storage Hardware Validation technical environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).
  • Experience collecting and organizing data to reproduce results and explain what happened.
  • Understanding of the storage system: (e.g., physical, functional, logical, mechanical, electrical, software, thermal etc), as well as how to test the interfaces.
  • Familiarity with HDD, SSD or Tape technologies and the software stack that supports them.
  • Ability to use scripting and automation to execute test algorithms, and then analyze results.
  • Excellent communication skills.
