Senior Software Engineer, gUP Engineering

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.

In gTech Users and Products (gUP), our mission is to advocate for Google’s users by creating helpful and trusted experiences across the product ecosystem. We achieve this by meeting partners and consumers where they are with support and help, representing their needs with our product partners and proposing fixes and features that elevate their engagement with Google's various product ecosystem. Additionally we provide a range of product services that ensure our products are optimized for every user, no matter where they are in the world (e.g., localization, digitization, partner integration and more).

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and implementation of significant features, new services, or architectural improvements within the Guided Support Experience (GSE) platform, managing complex engineering challenges.
• Take ownership of substantial parts of the GSE system, ensuring features are delivered with high quality, on time, and are scalable and maintainable.
• Advocate and contribute to high standards in code quality, test coverage, system reliability, performance, and engineering best practices within the team.
• Collaborate with and influence Product Managers, UX Designers, Researchers, and other Engineering teams to define solutions and drive technical alignment for complex projects.
• Identify, analyze, and solve complex technical problems, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to other Engineers on the team.

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
• 3 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Proficiency in Java, Typescript and databases.
