About the team and role:
The Buyer Success Product Analytics team is responsible for setting the strategic direction of eBay: our ambition, where we play, and how we win in the market. We play a meaningful role in crafting the future of eBay’s C2C marketplace by advising where and how we invest to drive balanced growth, engagement, and marketplace vibrancy. We partner closely with Product, Engineering, Design, and Business leaders to define success across the end-to-end buyer journey and ensure data-driven decisions at scale.
We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist to take a leadership role in accelerating eBay’s C2C strategy across core buyer experiences, including Homepage, Discovery & Recommendations, View Item, and Community surfaces (e.g., My eBay and key engagement initiatives). You will manage the analytics strategy for one or more important product domains. You will develop the measurement and experimentation roadmap. You will build robust metrics, segmentation, and evaluation frameworks. These will improve personalized discovery, trust, and buyer–seller engagement in a C2C marketplace.
You will act as a strategic thought partner to Product, Engineering, Design, and Business stakeholders, translating sophisticated data into clear narratives and actionable recommendations that drive buyer and seller engagement, increase marketplace vibrancy, and deliver incremental GMB/GMV. This is a high-impact role influencing how millions of buyers discover outstanding inventory and how buyers and sellers connect and transact across the eBay ecosystem.
What you will accomplish:
In this role, you will have the outstanding opportunity to:
Own analytics strategy and execution for key C2C buyer success initiatives, influencing product direction through data-backed insights, experimentation, and thought leadership.
Define and evolve success metrics across buyer engagement, discovery and community, with a deep understanding of how these drivers contribute to C2C growth and marketplace health.
Lead experimentation and causal analysis to evaluate product features, personalization strategies, and engagement mechanisms across buyer and seller touchpoints.
Develop segmentation and behavioral frameworks to understand buyers who also sell and community-driven behaviors, identifying opportunities to unlock flywheel effects and long-term value.
Partner cross-functionallyto invent roadmap decisions, influence trade-offs, and ensure analytics rigor is embedded in product development from ideation through launch and iteration.
Your work will be pivotal in improving the end-to-end buyer experience across the buyer lifecycle, strengthening buyer & seller relationships, and enabling eBay’s broader C2C ambitions. We are looking for a leader who combines strong technical depth with strategic thinking, business acumen, and the ability to navigate and optimize a complex, global marketplace.
What you will bring:
5-8 years of experience in analytics/data science
Strong technical skills to turn big data into concrete insights with hands-on ability in using SQL, R, Python, Tableau, etc.
Good experience with site experimentation (A/B testing).
Strong analytical foresight with thought leadership and critical thinking.
Experience in advanced Machine Learning models and skills like Ensemble Models, LLM and Krylov, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Transformer etc.
Good experience with both descriptive and inferential statistics – ability to build basic prototype models.
Proven track record of turning insights into product growth opportunities in prior roles with growing scope and responsibilities, preferably in leading technology companies.
Great articulation and communication skills - ability to explain complex analyses and insights into simple terms.
Strong background in ecommerce product experience.
Strong quantitative background with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Economics, Physics, Engineering. Master’s degrees preferred.
