Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of battery cells (e.g., pouch, prismatic) and battery pack assemblies, considering factors from mechanical shock or vibration, energy density, power density, safety, manufacturability, and cost.
- Utilize principles of mechanical engineering and material science to analyze the structural integrity of battery cells and packs under various operating conditions (e.g., vibration, shock, compression, thermal cycling).
- Apply a thorough understanding of the internal components and architecture of various battery cell chemistries and cell structure (e.g., winding, stacking) to inform design decisions and ensure compatibility.
- Participate in the selection of appropriate materials for cell components, pack housings, interconnects, and insulation based on mechanical properties, electrical conductivity, thermal performance, and cost.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6 years of experience creating 3D CAD model for battery cell internal structure or pack design including PCM/BMU for consumer electronics.
- 3 years of experience in technical leadership.
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in designing for manufacturability and assembly.
- Understanding of mechanical characterization principles and techniques relevant to battery materials and structures.
- Understanding of the internal cell structure and manufacturing process.
- Proficiency in using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX).
