Senior Software Engineer, macOS Specialist
The Windows and Mac Products team is driving Datadog’s expansion into End User Device Monitoring (EUDM) and the Digital Employee Experience (DEX) space. We are extending our observability platform to support the desktops and laptops used across enterprise environments. Our mission is to provide IT Administrators and Enterprise Ops teams with a single pane of glass to manage fleet health through robust, out-of-the-box observability for Windows and macOS. We bridge the gap between hardware performance, network connectivity, and application stability by building native, low-level telemetry tools that treat Windows and macOS as a first-class platform. By ensuring feature parity and operational excellence across every layer of the stack, we deliver deep visibility into critical issues without requiring the deployment of additional agents or libraries.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships that it builds, the creativity it brings to the table, and the collaboration of being together. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our employees can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What You’ll Do:
As a Senior Software Engineer and macOS Specialist, you’ll design and build cutting-edge features that bring deep observability and performance insights to Datadog users on macOS. We’re looking for an engineer with strong macOS internals and system development expertise to help shape the future of observability across Apple endpoints, from individual devices to large-scale enterprise environments. As a Senior Engineer, you will be tackling novel challenges in system telemetry and secure and reliable data collection at scale. You’ll work with core macOS technologies to build secure and performant monitoring capabilities deeply integrated with the operating system, aligning with Apple’s evolving platform architecture.
- Design, implement, and share ownership of macOS Agent-based integrations to collect data for system, network, and security monitoring
- Leverage macOS native system technologies to design and build comprehensive observability features integrated with the macOS platform; with flexibility to evaluate and adopt the most appropriate frameworks and system capabilities.
- Lead new feature development end-to-end, from ideation and researching Apple framework changes to implementation and deployment across diverse enterprise fleets.
- Solve unique challenges at the intersection of system programming, distributed telemetry, and endpoint observability & security
- Investigate bottlenecks and write optimized, resource-efficient software to ensure deep visibility without impacting battery life or user productivity.
- Influence or drive product decisions, plan upcoming high-impact projects, and mentor other engineers across macOS initiatives.
Who You Are:
- You have 5+ years of experience building systems-level applications and tooling, with a strong understanding of OS internals, system architecture, and runtime behavior.
- You have a proven track record of shipping software on macOS at scale.
- You have hands-on experience with native macOS APIs and system-level capabilities, and have designed systems that comply with Apple’s platform requirements.
- You have experience working with system-level macOS services and components, such as launchd-managed services (LaunchDaemons or LaunchAgents), inter-process communication, and macOS privacy and permission models (TCC).
- You are proficient in C/C++, Objective-C, and/or Swift, and have experience with macOS build and packaging toolchains (notarization, pkg, etc.).
- You have proven ability to own and deliver features in a fast-paced, high-growth environment to build new products.
- You are motivated by solving problems for the customer persona, specifically the IT Ops and Help Desk teams who rely on your data to keep businesses running.
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with Golang (the primary language of the Datadog Agent).
- Experience developing cross-platform software, including exposure to the Windows SDK.
- Experience working on agent-based observability or monitoring software, particularly long-running background agents that collect system, process, or network telemetry.
Benefits and Growth:
- New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
- Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
- Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking
- An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)
- Access to Inclusion Talks, our Internal panel discussions
- Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
- Competitive global benefits
Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.
