The Photos Privacy Solutions team on Trust is tasked to advance privacy solutions in Photos, including compliance with privacy regulation, protection of user data, increasing user trust, and ensuring user agency and transparency.

Photos have over a billion monthly users growing, with innovative AI features launching. In this role, you will have the opportunity to influence our user product, Photos infrastructure, and developers across the organization.

  • Build products that increase user data transparency and portability (e.g., data transfer between Google and other online services.
  • Learn and adopt solutions, like Private Computing, to protect Photos user data.
  • Manage issues and unprecedented problems, such as AI Privacy.
  • Advance solutions to enable Photos to meet complex regulatory compliance efficiently and scalably.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design and develop infrastructure and product changes that help Photos continue to lead the way in privacy practices (e.g., building new features and APIs, writing new business logic, and changing our databases).
  • Advocate Google best practices and privacy controls in Photos.
  • Collaborate with the other teams within Photos as well as other products and teams across Google.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
  • 1 year of experience in large-scale distributed systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills.
