Research Lab Manager, QuantumAI
Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability.
Google Quantum AI’s mission is to make useful quantum computing tools available to the world, enabling humankind to solve problems that would otherwise be impossible. Quantum AI is building novel systems that leverage quantum mechanics to outperform the world's largest computers at certain classes of problems.
In this role, you will be focusing on coordinating facility build-outs and implementing safety programs. You will be responsible for maintaining various facilities for quantum computers, ensuring equipment is serviced in accordance with manufacturers’ guidelines and in compliance with relevant permits. You will prioritize tasks while communicating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $113,000-$161,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Work closely with technicians and engineers on facility-related projects, maintenance, shutdowns, and emergencies.
- Assist the facilities team with following equipment maintenance procedures and service contracts in a high-tech environment.
Determine space planning of equipment with necessary utilities and supporting infrastructure.
- Support the development and enforcement of operational procedures for laboratory safety and hazards.
- Support equipment installation by translating technical documentation and working with vendors to provide site-ready infrastructure .
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of experience in managing an industry lab (e.g., semiconductor fabrication or hardware research facility).
- 3 years of experience with safety regulations and protocols in a research or lab environment.
- 3 years of experience with maintenance of lab facilities including vacuum, or electrical test systems, liquid nitrogen, or other hazards/chemicals.
- 3 years of experience overseeing electrical, mechanical, and plumbing construction in a research and development setting.
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of debugging skills.
- Familiar with using industry standard simulations and debug tools.
