Are you obsessed with the intersection of anatomy, technology, craft and performance? The Avatar Engine Creative Team at Roblox is looking for a Rigging Specialist to help define the next generation of digital identity. In this role, you won't just be rigging characters; you will be pioneering the systems and technology that power Roblox characters. We are looking for an R&D minded Technical Artist specialized in rigging to push the boundaries of real time gaming deformation, automate complex pipelines, and build tools that allow millions of creators to bring their avatars to life.
You will:
- Research and develop novel rigging techniques and skinning solutions that support the evolution of the Roblox Avatar Engine.
- Create robust, scalable rigging systems and automation tools (Python/Lua) that support large-scale creative projects and diverse character types.
- Collaborate with engine engineers and product teammates to ensure high and low fidelity character deformations run smoothly across all devices, from high end PCs to mobile devices.
- Identify bottlenecks and opportunities in the current art pipeline and design intuitive tools that empower artists (internally and externally) to work more efficiently and produce avatars with artist intention.
- Serve as the bridge between Art, Design and Engineering, translating creative vision into technical reality.
You have:
- 10+ years of professional experience as a Technical Artist or Rigger in games, VFX, or tech applications, with a strong portfolio showcasing complex character rigging systems.
- Deep knowledge of DCC tools (Maya/Blender) and proficiency in scripting languages (Python is a must; Lua is a huge plus).
- A strong grasp of human/creature anatomy and the vector math/linear algebra required to simulate realistic movement and deformation.
- A passionate mind for R&D. You love diving into the unknown to solve "impossible" and interesting technical hurdles in relation to character systems.
- The ability to explain complex technical concepts to artists and designers and artistic needs to engineers and product partners.

i've heard horror stories about the interview loop here, really worried they're gonna ask leetcode questions for a rigging role.
working on the avatar engine actually sounds like a blast, seeing this salary makes me want to dust off my python and get back in the game
sure it sounds like a blast until you're on a pip because you didn't invent a 'novel rigging technique' in your first month, i'd be a nervous wreck working under that kind of pressure
honestly technical riggers who can actually script are unicorns, you should definitely apply because that skillset is super hard to find.
