Supplier Quality Engineer, OEM Networking
As a Supplier Quality Engineer for Networking, you will join the team responsible for setting and managing the quality and reliability standards for our Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Router and Optical Transport products. You will collaborate to drive supplier development and ongoing performance management to Google's technology and business needs. You will have involvement in the tools and techniques used to assess product quality and reliability. You will have partner management skills and the ability to sift through data and use it to drive design or process improvements. You will manage the OEM supplier quality and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google’s powerful search technology. You will collaborate with Commodity Managers and Engineers to determine Google’s infrastructure needs and product specifications and to make sure you will maximize multi-sourcing for each product. Your work ensures the various pieces of Google’s infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $138,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement supplier quality programs including continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Drive and execute RMAs (Returned Material Authorization) and failure analyses, establish root causes, and drive corrective actions.
- Lead end-to-end sustaining product quality metrics (e.g., metric calculation, metric resolution, trend review, internal reporting).
- Perform regular audits of supplier manufacturing facilities and assess production control and quality programs, identify shortfalls to expectation, and directly secure resolution.
- Manage Product Change Notifications (PCNs) and drive appropriate evaluation and qualification with Engineering teams.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in supplier quality, reliability, or hardware quality engineering for networking, server, or data center infrastructure.
- 8 years of experience in high-volume manufacturing (HVM) environments working directly with OEM suppliers.
- 8 years of experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives involving failure analysis (FA), quality systems, and root cause resolution.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in hardware reliability engineering and formal quality management systems.
- Familiarity with networking hardware systems including switches, routers, line cards, optics, power, and thermal management.
Familiarity with the software stacks and network operating systems that power hyperscale environments.
- Familiarity with data analysis and scripting tools such as Python, SQL, or equivalent.
- Ability to architect new operational frameworks and drive technical clarity in ambiguous, non-standardized environments.
- Ability to distill and present complex technical issues to both engineering teams and executive leadership.
