As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers by setting clear expectations, delivering career growth mentoring, writing performance assessments and promotion cases.
  • Collaborate with team members and upper managers and other stakeholders to set Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), track them and make course corrections where necessary, in order to ensure that they are achieved.
  • Create high-level roadmaps and define technical approaches for the team's areas of responsibility.
  • Build relationships with peer managers in adjacent teams that either support the team's projects or serve as clients, and influence cross-functional collaboration to develop ideas and agreements for future join initiatives.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming in C++, Java, Python, Kotlin or Go.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experiencing in a leadership role managing other individual contributors.
  • Experience in data analysis.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with both C++ and Python.
  • Experience in data harvesting.
  • Experience in Generative AI.
