We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Australia is a strategically important market for PayPal’s SMB business. The Director, SMB Australia will be accountable for the financial performance and long-term growth of PayPal’s SMB portfolio in Australia, aligned to global strategy and local market dynamics.
Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
- Act as an advisor or counsel to influence decisions.
- Establish overall business or technical strategy for sales development.
- Spend significant time on strategic planning.
- Influence decision-making at the executive level.
- Drive the long-term success strategy of the sales development function.
Expected Qualifications:
- 10+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Strategy & Business Leadership
Own the financial performance of the Australian SMB portfolio, including revenue growth, profitability, and customer expansion
Define local SMB priorities aligned with PayPal’s global SMB commercial strategy and Australian market dynamics
Identify and assess SMB customer needs, market trends, and changes in the competitive and regulatory landscape
Develop, propose, and implement strategic and tactical changes to improve performance or respond to evolving market conditions
Cross-Functional Execution
Oversee and reduce friction in the execution of SMB priorities across cross-functional teams, including:
Sales and Inside Sales
Marketing
Partnerships
Product & Product Marketing
PayPal.com / Digital
Pricing
Risk, Compliance & Legal
Customer Support
Provide leadership and hands-on coordination of global and local cross-functional commercial initiatives
Establish regular operating cadences to review performance, track progress, and course-correct as needed
Ensure strong alignment across all local stakeholders behind a single, integrated SMB plan
Partnerships & Ecosystem
Define and execute a clear SMB partner strategy for Australia as a key growth lever
Identify, evaluate, and prioritize strategic partners across the Australian ecosystem
Lead or actively participate in partnership negotiations and ongoing partner management
People Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Lead and develop the local SMB team
Analyze, interpret, and communicate SMB performance and insights to regional and global leadership
Share best practices and insights with SMB leaders in other markets and collaborate on global SMB initiatives
Skills & Experience
Preferred
10+ years of experience in business strategy, commercial management, or related leadership roles
Strong understanding of the Australian SMB ecosystem, including payments, eCommerce, and omnichannel commerce
Proven experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives through influence rather than formal authority
Strong strategic and quantitative analytical skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
Experience developing business cases, sizing opportunities, and presenting recommendations to senior executives
Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
Strong people leadership skills, with experience coaching and developing high-performing teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience in fintech, payments, or financial services
Experience developing and executing partner strategies
MBA or equivalent advanced degree
