PayPal, Inc. seeks Software Engineer 2 in San Jose, CA
Job Duties: Solve large scale computer engineering problems using applications such as Node.js, Java, C++., and Python. Help build payments capabilities for both real-time processing and batch processing. Work closely with product, experience, and integration teams to understand the developer needs and deliver the core payments functionality that meets their backend software needs. Work in an agile environment with a focus on problem solving and engineering excellence. Build performance efficient, highly scalable, configurable, and available software applications and systems. Define, design, and implement complex, multi-tier distributed software applications. Design, develop, and test high throughput back-end software systems. Develop object-oriented software and design, code, and test complex software features. Develop software code and help lead code review sessions. Segment and design technical system layers to support componentized and layered software application development, including business logic functionality and database/component repository access. Identify and fix performance, scalability, and other software live issues in a very time critical environment. Identify and make recommendations to reduce software project risks. Solve large scale computer engineering problems, in a repeatable and maintainable way. Build strong competencies in data structures and algorithms, along with a technical fascination for how everything ties together. Work with software product architects located in the U.S. to define the requirements and approach for new payments and settlement products and enhancements. Deliver high-quality software code to production within a short development cycle in the continuous integration environment. Participate proactively in the team and company-wide technical discussion. Employ technical expertise to help offshore members overcome technical software problems. Review software code done by team members to ensure high technical standards and drive the testing and meet the sign-off criteria. Conduct software design and code reviews, fix bugs, and resolve production issues. Create web applications using React/Node. Create back-end services using Java, SQL, and REST to build and develop new user-facing experiences. Partner closely with cross functional teams in software design, product and other business units. Partial telecommuting may be permitted from within a commutable distance.
Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus two years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
Special Skill Requirements:
1. Experience developing enterprise-level applications using Java, following object-oriented design principles and implementing multi-threading techniques (1 year)
2. Expertise in writing complex SQL queries, optimizing database performance, and working with relational databases for efficient data retrieval and manipulation (1 year)
3. Experience with developing dynamic web applications using JavaScript and TypeScript, utilizing asynchronous programming and ES6+ feature (1 year)
4. Experience in developing and structuring modern web pages using HTML5, ensuring semantic markup and accessibility compliance (1 year)
5. Experience with creating scalable server-side applications and APIs using Node.js, with a focus on asynchronous event-driven programming and performance optimization (1 year)
6. Experience in building responsive user interfaces using React, with incorporating state management through Redux for seamless data flow and user experience (1 year)
7. Expertise with Hibernate ORM to develop and optimize database interactions in Java-based applications, ensuring efficient object-relational mapping and transaction handling (1 year)
8. Experience with leveraging Spring Framework for building scalable, maintainable, and secure Java applications, implementing dependency injection and aspect-oriented programming (AOP) (1 year)
9. Experience in designing and consuming APIs using GraphQL and REST, optimizing data fetching and handling complex query requirements (1 year)
10. Experience with developing microservices and RESTful APIs using Spring Boot, with a focus on rapid application development and deployment (1 year)
11. Experience implementing real-time data streaming and event-driven architectures using Kafka and other messaging queues, ensuring high throughput and fault tolerance (1 year)

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

San Jose, California | Salary: $149,365.00-198,500.00 per annum. 40 hours per week; M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
