As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

The Search Ads team is aiming to re-invent Search Ads to serve users in Search AI Experiences (e.g., AI Mode, AI Overview). This involves innovating to create novel ad experiences and business models, as well as building new tech stack leveraging Gemini models.

As a Software Engineer, you will innovate on ad experiences for Search AI Mode, leveraging Gemini to bring incredible ad and search product experiences for users and advertisers. You'll leverage full stack engineering skills to develop distributed systems and LLM-based products.

We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.
  • Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
  • Make changes in the production of Search and Search Ads systems, utilizing expertise in Java/Kotlin and C++.
  • Run and analyze experiments to present results to leadership and find areas of opportunity and improvement.
  • Contribute to our evaluation processes (e.g. LLM-based AutoRaters) as part of our development workflow.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 5 years of experience with full stack development, across back-end such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++ codebases, and front-end experience including JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience with C++, Java, or Large Language Models.

  • Ability to work and adapt in a fast-moving environment.
