A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.

As a Senior 3D Artist, you will join a small and fast-moving “0 to 1” team at the forefront of culture on Roblox, building creative lighthouse examples and future platform capabilities that spark new forms of play, participation, and expression. You will be a highly-versatile, hands-on individual contributor with a primary strength in environments, complemented by substantial experience across a range of 3D art types including objects and characters. Focused on crafting high-quality worlds with a deep sense of narrative space, you will support our ongoing drumbeat of performances and events while acting as an accelerant to game-dev and production partners. Your role is deeply collaborative, requiring a structured approach to packaging repeatable workflows and translating breakthrough innovation into technical and creative solutions that can scale on Roblox.

You will:

  • Craft immersive environments and layouts directly in Roblox Studio, applying a holistic understanding of 3D space and flow across natural and architectural schemes.
  • Develop lighting direction to establish mood, readability, and emotional tone, while establishing next-generation time-based lighting setups and atmospheric effects.
  • Support character and in-world object development, prototyping models within your environments to ensure spaces are optimized for performance and expression.
  • Execute rapid prototyping in fast iteration cycles, building playable worlds quickly to support experimentation, playtests, and live launches.
  • Drive cross-functional partnership with strategy, creative leads, engineering, and design to ensure creative goals are technically achievable while surfacing feedback on engine limitations.
  • Accelerate partner production by providing hands-on guidance to external creators and identifying reusable patterns, assets, or workflows to inform future creator-facing tools.
  • Contribute to platform evolution by exploring new platform primitive types and optimizing lighting and material textures for both visual impact and technical scalability.

You have:

  • 6–10+ years of experience in game development, interactive media, or immersive environments with a proven ability to move quickly from concept to playable world.
  • Artistic mastery in 3D environment art, lighting, materials, and world composition, with a strength in emotive-driven storytelling.
  • Substantial experience across 3D art types, with the ability to stretch technically and creatively across characters, vehicles, and props in addition to world-building.
  • Real-time fluency and a deep understanding of proprietary engine rendering constraints, effects, and performance optimization.
  • High-speed proficiency in environment modeling and texturing tools such as Blender, Maya, and Substance Painter/Designer.
  • Broader technical knowledge of the world-building stack, including character, animation, physics, and an understanding of how AI/automation will impact 3D art.
  • A collaborative R&D mindset, comfortable working in ambiguous environments and packaging execution into structured, scalable solutions.
