Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs, Competition Advisory Americas Lead

As Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs, Competition Advisory Americas Lead, you’ll join the Americas team advising on critical risks pertaining to competition legal, regulatory, and other obligations that impact all aspects of our infrastructure, products, and businesses. You will work closely with Google and other Alphabet companies’ Compliance, Public Policy, Communications, Marketing, Product and Engineering teams to help ensure compliance.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $320,000-$445,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Build relationships and engage with governments and competition regulators to negotiate product changes and legal interpretations, and respond to questions relating to our efforts on critical compliance obligations and readiness efforts.
- Translate legislation, regulations, and other obligations into product design ideas that will be utilized by Compliance, Product, Business, and Engineering teams to ensure compliance.
- Provide legal advice and subject matter insights to varied legal and non-legal internal teams. Review proposed product designs and advise teams on risks that arise during implementation.
- Maintain and develop our AMER team structure to ensure performance and strong and trusted relationships within Alphabet. Advise on product launches and business agreements, including M&A, to help assess and navigate regulatory risks.
Minimum qualifications:
- JD, equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- 15 years of experience in legal, compliance, and regulatory risk.
- Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g. have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience managing projects, building teams, and partnering effectively with cross-functional colleagues.
- Experience building relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders (including regulators) in key risk areas.
- Experience developing, evaluating, and maintaining programs and processes that ensure products comply with laws, regulations, and external commitments.
- Experience managing regional teams and other managers.
- Experience working with technology companies and ability to understand complex technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, time management, analytical, investigative skills, attention to detail, and ability to be action-oriented.
