As a Research Scientist, you'll setup large-scale tests and deploy promising ideas quickly and broadly, managing deadlines and deliverables while applying the latest theories to develop new and improved products, processes, or technologies. From creating experiments and prototyping implementations to designing new architectures, our research scientists work on real-world problems that span the breadth of computer science, such as machine (and deep) learning, data mining, natural language processing, hardware and software performance analysis, improving compilers for mobile platforms, as well as core search and much more.

As a Research Scientist, you'll also actively contribute to the wider research community by sharing and publishing your findings, with ideas inspired by internal projects as well as from collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes all over the world.

The Ads GenAI team develops cutting-edge ML models to show high quality ads that power the free internet for everyone. In particular, the team works on adapting Gemini models for various ads tasks through automated prompt engineering, finetuning, and reinforcement learning. Come and help develop state-of-the-art techniques in a team that has a mix of research scientists and engineers, and works closely with Google Deepmind and Search.

We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248,000-$349,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop novel ML modeling techniques that influence products.
  • Work with and finetune LLMs for targeting, large-scale retrieval, pseudo-rater, and other Ads applications.
  • Work with researchers and engineers in Google Deepmind and Search.
  • Work with product teams to develop and deploy user-facing products.
  • Publish papers at leading ML conferences.

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience with research agendas across multiple teams or projects.
  • Experience in one or more areas of machine learning, such as large language models, natural language processing, or data processing.
  • One of more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories (such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in deploying ML models in production.
  • Research experience in Ads or Search Quality.
  • Coding experience with Python.
  • Research expertise in Generative AI and Large Language Models.
