Description

In this role, you will lead manufacturing research and development, tackling complex challenges that directly impact the cost, quality, and delivery of Apple's iconic products. Exercising expert judgment, you will establish standard practices, evaluate design approaches, and apply deep expertise in mechanical product design. You will serve as a technical lead, mentoring cross-functional engineering teams and driving the integration of emerging technological trends into our manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Drive manufacturing research and development to solve complex problems impacting final product cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Establish standard practices and assess the impact of design parameters on final products, applying extensive expertise in mechanical product design.
  • Guide, mentor, and resource engineering groups, project leaders, and factory technicians as a lead engineer on major sub-projects.
  • Champion Design for Manufacturability (DFM) by providing early and ongoing input to ensure new products are mechanically manufacturable.
  • Oversee product engineering across all phases—from concept to repeat manufacturing to end-of-life—while providing production support and failure analysis.
  • Design and develop technically sophisticated processes to continuously elevate manufacturing quality and operational efficiency.
  • Plan and execute procedures for testing and evaluating pre-release products, leveraging Design of Experiments (DOE) and Six Sigma principles.
  • Track and incorporate relevant technical trends to keep manufacturing processes at the cutting edge of the industry.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years in an engineering or automation role, including directing engineering teams for New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Track record of driving cost reduction, managing projects, and executing mechanical engineering design.
  • Capability to build and analyze tolerance stack-ups for individual parts and assemblies.
  • Understanding of adhesives and dispensing technology.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Mandarin and English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in New Product Introduction and Manufacturing Operations.
  • Expertise in automation machine design for precision consumer electronics assembly, alongside knowledge of optics principles (CCD cameras, 1D/2D lasers) for alignment fixtures.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, servo motors, PLCs, and PC-based control systems.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and design tools, including JMP, Minitab, and Six Sigma principles.
  • Proficiency in coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL) coupled with the capability to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to solve production problems or automate workflows.
