Architect, Data Center Power and Generation Systems
As an Architect, you will define the power systems architecture that underpins the company’s growth, performance, and resiliency. Your expertise will directly shape how we design, build, and operate energy infrastructure at global scale, while providing VP-level influence without people management responsibilities.
Qualifications
Acknowledged expert/professional within company and/or industry nationally and internationally. Provides leadership in the development and strategic direction of new products, processes, techniques. Acts as primary consultant on large projects that effect the organization's long term objectives / strategy. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 10 more years of software engineering or related experience.Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Architecture and Technical Standards
Define and maintain global reference architectures for HV/MV/LV distribution, AIS/GIS substations, grounding, protective relaying, and microgrid/EMS systems.
Develop enterprise-wide utility interconnection philosophies—including transmission and distribution interconnects, islanding, and regulatory alignment.
Establish standards for generators, switchgear, UPS topologies, and BESS integration that ensure reliability (N+1/2N) and consistency across regions.
Own the energy systems technology roadmap, identifying and evaluating emerging technologies for adoption at scale.
Grid Interconnection and Utility Strategy
Lead technical engagements with utilities and regulatory entities regarding interconnection, capacity, compliance, and planning.
Oversee and validate complex power system modeling (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonics, stability) supporting global infrastructure decisions.
Develop strategies for demand response, curtailable load, peak-shaving, and grid-support functions while ensuring uninterrupted operations.
Onsite Generation, BESS and Microgrid Systems
Architect onsite generation systems (gas turbines, reciprocating engines) including fuel systems, emissions controls, and heat recovery integration.
Define architectures and deployment standards for BESS supporting resiliency, economic optimization, and grid-support capabilities (ride-through, FFR, spinning reserve, black start).
Develop control sequences and microgrid philosophies for seamless transitions between grid-connected and islanded operation.
Delivery Excellence and Cross-Functional Technical Leadership
Provide senior technical guidance from concept through commissioning (L1–L5), ensuring design intent is consistently executed.
Review and approve one-line diagrams, protection schemes, SCADA/EMS architectures, and major equipment specifications.
Partner with project management, construction, commissioning, operations, and risk teams to align on design decisions affecting performance and scalability.
Optimization, Cost, and Performance Management
Set enterprise performance targets for power system reliability, availability, efficiency, and total cost of ownership.
Lead technical analysis for topology optimization, loss reduction, demand-charge mitigation, and long-range capacity planning.
Develop frameworks for data-driven operational monitoring and continuous improvement.
External Engagement, OEM Strategy and Industry Influence
Drive technical leadership in RFIs/RFPs and OEM/EPC qualification, selection, and long-term partnership strategies.
Represent the company in industry forums and standards bodies, influencing regulations and advancing best practices.
Maintain deep market and technology awareness to guide future-state infrastructure decisions.
Qualifications
15+ years of advanced experience in power systems engineering, utility interconnection, onsite generation, BESS, microgrids, or mission-critical electrical infrastructure.
Expert-level knowledge of HV/MV/LV systems, protection, substations, and power system studies.
Demonstrated success influencing senior executives, cross-functional engineering, construction, and operations teams in a highly complex environment.
Experience with data centers, utility-scale generation, or large industrial facilities preferred.
PE license strongly preferred; advanced degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems is a plus.
Proven ability to drive enterprise-level outcomes as a senior executive level individual contributor.
