Staff Product Design Engineer, Pixel and Watch Accessories
As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.
The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.
Responsibilities
- Apply engineering fundamentals, analyze data, and implement findings to solve complex mission-critical issues. Regularly demonstrate unique/innovative system level solutions to complex problems.
- Deliver complex areas/components/systems through multiple milestones. Own project scoping, internal roadmaps, manage project priorities, and allocate technical resources within the program.
- Drive greater team initiatives affecting multiple product teams (e.g., publishing technical documents, teaching design classes, creating standards). Lead cross-functional solutions to urgent, time-dependent issues. Execute work independently, anticipating and preventing program roadblocks. Grow the team’s technical excellence by mentoring engineers. Regularly present to management and cross-functional management.
- Develop new or maintain existing processes, procedures, methods, or tests with foresight. Participate in Google community contribution activities (e.g., recruiting, promotion and hiring committees).
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in consumer electronics, and 5 years of experience in full NPI cycles as a Product Development Lead.
- 8 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
- 8 years of experience in materials and manufacturing methods for consumer electronics.
Preferred qualifications:
12 years of experience in consumer product design.
- Experienced in all vendor arrangements (CM, JDM, ODM).
- Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and vendor management.
