Apple’s Hardware Reliability Engineering team is looking for you to work with our diverse hardware engineering teams. As the Reliability team, we are responsible for ensuring and improving the durability and reliability of Apple's products. To achieve that, we partner with multiple engineering teams from the beginning (concept) to the end (field returns) of a product lifecycle, while exploring new technologies and understanding how customers will use our products.

Description

You will help develop and implement creative reliability tests on new hardware programs, quantify reliability risk, support failure analysis resulting from these tests, and advise the executive team on the best path forward.

Responsibilities

  • Bringing up and monitoring the Reliability Labs at our contract manufacturers.
  • Interfacing with cross-functional partners to ensure a seamless test and failure analysis process.
  • Developing new reliability tests procedures and specifications.
  • Preparing concise and detailed test plans and analyzing test reports.
  • Statistically analyzing data to provide design risk assessments.
  • Researching new technologies to understand unique failure mechanisms.
  • Guiding design and interacting with diverse groups to improve product reliability.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical field (mechanical engineering, materials engineering, electrical engineering, physics or related fields etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal English and Chinese communication skills.
  • Ability to make clear and concise slides and presentations through keynote, excel, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or an equivalent field.
  • Experience performing reliability testing including Mechanical Stress Tests, Shock/Drop/Vibration Testing, Environmental Testing.
  • Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP, or familiarity with accelerated test models.
  • Solid understanding of Design of Experiments (DOE) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), with an imaginative approach to identifying unique failure mechanisms.
  • Familiar with Failure Analysis techniques (Optical Microscopy, X-ray/CT, Scanning Electron Microscopy/Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, etc.), and the ability to use failure analysis methodology to derive root causes of failure.
  • Dynamic engineer with a proactive, "can-do" attitude who thrives in ambiguity, solves problems creatively, and collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Capable of handling multiple projects at once with strong attention to detail and a curiosity for how technologies work.
  • Experience with AI, Vibe coding, programming or scripting is a plus.
