Amazon's Core Shopping QA Operations (OPTIMA) team is seeking an experienced and driven Quality Assurance Engineer II (QAE) to own quality validation across our customer-facing shopping ecosystem. OPTIMA delivers end-to-end quality assurance for Core Shopping experiences, spanning Off-Amazon Selection (OAS), Rufus, Vesper, and Details Page (OffersX and VariationsX) and our QAE IIs are the technical quality partners to Engineering and Product, owning test strategy and release readiness for high-visibility launches. As a QAE II on the OPTIMA team, you will define test strategy for complex features, design and build automation frameworks, drive defects to resolution, and hold independent GO/NO-GO authority as the QA counterpart to Software Development Engineers (SDEs) and Product Owners. You will operate with significant autonomy across devices and locales, mentor junior QAEs, and raise the quality bar across the organization while making direct contributions to OPTIMA's most critical programs.

Key job responsibilities
  • Own test strategy end-to-end for assigned features and programs — translating ambiguous requirements (BRDs, Figma designs, PRDs) into comprehensive test plans, coverage benchmarks, and sign-off criteria
  • Design, build, and maintain automation frameworks and automated regression suites across web and device platforms, and integrate automated quality gates into CI/CD pipelines
  • Lead functional, regression, integration, performance, and exploratory testing across multiple devices, browsers, and locales
  • Own the defect lifecycle — triage, prioritize, perform root-cause analysis, and partner with SDEs to drive resolution, ensuring defects are reproducible and well-documented before escalation
  • Hold independent GO/NO-GO authority, assessing release readiness and clearly communicating quality risks to leadership under time pressure
  • Set up and manage complex test environments, test data, and access/configuration requirements independently
  • Define and track quality metrics (defect escape rate, coverage, cycle time, pass rates) and surface systemic gaps and risks across supported business lines
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to QAE I and QA technicians, reviewing test cases, automation, and defect analysis to raise the team's quality bar
A day in the life
As a QAE II on the OPTIMA team, you own quality end-to-end. Your day might start at stand-up, setting testing direction and unblocking junior engineers across locales. You'll translate ambiguous requirements into a comprehensive test strategy, architect automation frameworks, and wire quality gates into CI/CD pipelines. When defects surface, you drive root-cause analysis and partner with SDEs to resolution. You'll hold independent GO/NO-GO authority, assessing release readiness and communicating risks to leadership under pressure while mentoring the team and tracking quality metrics. It's a fast-paced, high-ownership environment where your judgment determines whether experiences used by millions ship.
