Category Manager – Pricing Strategy & Operations

We're seeking a Category Manager to anchor the Pricing Strategy and Pricing Operations charter for Core Consumables at Amazon. This role presents an extraordinary opportunity to architect the pricing architecture for high-velocity categories, drive margin and competitiveness outcomes at scale, and build the operating systems that keep pricing sharp every single day.

Core Responsibilities

1. Pricing Strategy & Architecture

Own the end-to-end pricing strategy for consumables and beauty verticals, balancing price competitiveness, margin improvement, and customer trust
Design tiered pricing frameworks across category roles (traffic drivers, basket builders, margin drivers) and define pricing posture by brand, selection type, and competitive intensity
Architect pricing constructs for new vertical launches — introductory pricing, promotional cadence, and steady-state price positioning
Develop ASP uplift and margin improvement roadmaps with clearly quantified bps-level goals
Define pricing guardrails and exception frameworks for high-visibility and price-sensitive ASINs

2. Pricing Operations & Execution

Build and run the weekly/daily pricing operations rhythm — price fixing cadences, competitive price matching, and anomaly detection and correction
Drive automation of pricing workflows in partnership with tech/product teams; reduce manual interventions and improve pricing SLA adherence
Establish price quality audit mechanisms — coverage, accuracy, and speed of competitive price responses
Manage promotional pricing execution, event pricing readiness, and post-event price normalization
Own PPU/unit-price integrity, MRP compliance, and pricing hygiene across the catalogue

3. Competitive Intelligence & Market Insights

Continuously track competitor pricing movements, promotional patterns, and market pricing trends
Build and maintain competitive price benchmarking frameworks and dashboards for leadership visibility
Translate elasticity insights and market data into actionable pricing recommendations

4. Strategic Leadership & Collaboration

Partner with category, instock, vendor management, and finance leaders to align pricing decisions with P&L goals
Lead collaborative decision-making on pricing trade-offs (growth vs. margin, competitiveness vs. profitability)
Present pricing strategy recommendations, performance reviews, and escalations to senior leadership
Negotiate funding and price support with brands/sellers to enable sharp pricing without margin dilution

5. Ensure High-Quality Pricing Inputs

Ensure best-in-class inputs — competitive crawls, cost structures, elasticity data — feed pricing decisions
Develop and maintain frameworks for gathering, validating, and incorporating pricing inputs from stakeholders and data systems

Qualifications

Master's degree in business, economics, or a related field
Proven experience in pricing strategy, revenue management, or category P&L ownership
Strong analytical skills — comfort with elasticity analysis, margin modeling, and large datasets (SQL/Excel proficiency preferred)
Demonstrated ability to build and run operational cadences with high execution rigor
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence without authority
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment

Key job responsibilities
Setup the right frameworks for deciding the right Pricing Strategy
Work with multiple internal stakeholders to operationalize the Pricing strategy
Setup best in class practices to help consumers make the right choice
