Configuration and Automation Engineer

We are seeking a Configuration and Automation Engineer to help shape and scale the internal tooling that enables the review of millions of app submissions every year.
Description
You'll build automation and internal tools that enable our app review specialists to work more efficiently. This includes configuring review workflows, developing automation for decision systems, and rapidly prototyping new tools using modern AI-assisted development approaches.
The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments, understands large-scale systems, and enjoys working with both technical and operational teams.
Responsibilities
- Configure and customize internal tools supporting app review workflows
- Build automation for app review decision systems with accurate, scalable outcomes
- Define requirements for event-driven compute solutions (e.g., FaaS) that generate actions and insights from real-time signals
- Partner with operations teams to understand workflows, identify bottlenecks, and identify data requirements
- Debug and inspect apps, including network traffic and binary analysis, to identify automation opportunities
- Query and process large-scale datasets using platforms like Trino and HDFS
Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ years building backend automation, data systems, or internal tooling
- JavaScript proficiency for scripting, data processing, and event-driven logic (not front-end development)
- Experience with client-server architectures and dynamic UI configuration
- Experience supporting high-volume operational workflows where users process large volumes of items
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code) for rapid prototyping
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Apple's SDK and app internals (binary analysis, control flow, network traffic)
- Experience with event-driven compute or FaaS platforms
- Experience querying large datasets with Trino, HDFS, or similar technologies
- Python proficiency for data analysis and internal tooling
- Proficiency in Python, particularly for data analysis.
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $118,500 and $244,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
