We are seeking a highly skilled Human Factors Engineer/Researcher to apply user-centered design principles to the research, design and development of Apple audio products. In this role, you'll be focused on evaluating comfort, fit, and ergonomic interaction with products. You'll study and observe user interactions and customize quantitative log collection, while also intuitively relating to the user and applying their intuition.

Description

This role requires working at the intersection of different fields, on a variety of projects and with multiple partners. Curiosity to delve into new domains, the ability to learn from cross- functional, often highly technical partners and quick thinking are key.

A typical day could include (but not limited to): Recruit study participants, create research protocols, run user study sessions, conduct human factors tasks, analyze study results, communicate with cross functional partners. You have to be able to work exceptionally well in a fast-paced environment and multitask between tasks/projects.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Human Factors Engineering (HFE) techniques and principles at all phases of product/technology development
  • Exercise independent judgment in development of study methodology, data collection efforts, data analysis, conclusions, and design recommendations
  • Develop user study criteria and detailed methodology for projects which focus on product comfort and span from formative to evaluative and qualitative to quantitative
  • Conduct user-centered research and evaluation on a diverse user population using experimental data and scientific publications
  • Conduct statistical and qualitative analyses of data and provide clear and concise feedback to teams in a timely manner
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, engineering, and product development groups.
  • Conduct validation studies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with a concentration in Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, Human - Computer Interaction, or closely relevant field
  • 3+ years industry experience in Human Factors or User Experience Research
  • Expertise in creating thorough experimental designs, applying scientific methods
  • Mixed methods expertise to combine quantitative and qualitative research approaches
  • Experience with consumer product usability evaluation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to customize data collection tools, as well as manipulate, analyze and visualize outputs
  • Experience with scripting/programming for data manipulation and research applications (e.g., R, Matlab, Python)
  • Expertise in interview techniques related to product use
  • Experience with human factors engagement through different stages of the product life cycle, including foundational, formative and evaluative stages
  • Experience using AI tools to support research workflows, including study design, analysis, and insights synthesis

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $147,400 and $272,100, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
