The Business Affairs team at Apple drives the planning, licensing, and execution of rights-managed content in Apple’s advertising and marketing and is an integral part of Marcom. We work closely with business, legal, and production teams across Apple functions and organizations to ensure the flawless development of world-class marketing communications.

Description

Our team is seeking an experienced Business Affairs Manager to support our Marcom Newsroom and Communications teams. This role demands a high degree of ownership, integrity and accountability and requires a deep understanding of intellectual property law, social media, and photo and video production.
You will develop, deploy, and scale the strategic and tactical planning, risk mitigation, media licensing, and asset management processes for Newsroom’s channels. You’ll partner with producers, creatives, and legal to translate strategic content goals into risk profiles, action IP clearances, and ensure risks are mitigated for any third-party content featured in Newsroom deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all business affairs matters for complex projects from concept to wrap and maintain line of sight into all facets of production including thinking ahead on project/clearance/legal needs and roadblocks, understanding talent/content creator production processes, and navigating regulatory issues.
  • Apply critical thinking throughout production, advising on scripts and storyboards for initial flags, providing creative solutions, and working closely with legal to assess and mitigate risk.
  • Provide full production support including declaring insurance and preparing all necessary paperwork for productions including casting notices, releases, talent estimates, talent contracts, and talent payment processing.
  • Provide solutions to production challenges that fit creatively while still being 
legally sound, financially responsible, and aligned with the product, creative, and strategic objectives.
  • Brief Apple and agency production teams with detailed production guidance involving legal issues, marketing rights restrictions, FCC and FTC compliance strategies, and the business risk(s) associated with each.
  • Manage Newsroom, Communications, and Executive Social risk escalations to Apple Leadership and Legal.
  • Negotiate and license third-party IP and initiate trademark searches when necessary.
  • Facilitate third-party content clearances and localization in partnership with Marcom Production and Business Affairs Clearances & Licensing Managers.
  • Manage database systems to track content usage across multiple productions

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years demonstrated experience in a rights-related position within the advertising, marketing and/or entertainment industries.
  • Significant understanding of copyright, trademarks, talent, and content licensing.
  • Extensive and current industry knowledge on publicity, influencer marketing, and advertising legal rights and standards within digital and social media.
  • Strong communication and presentation delivery skills, with comfort and aptitude for communicating with c-level leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters in Business Administration, Law or related field.
  • Experience in television, film, and/or music industry.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and time management skills to thrive within a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Self-motivated and flexible, with demonstrated resilience operating within ambiguous projects.
  • Highly collaborative, with a passion for building relationships across LOBs; substantial contacts across advertising, marketing, and/or entertainment industry.
  • Significant writing and critical analysis skills for drafting contracts and other business agreements.
  • Familiarity with marketing productivity tools such as Sprinklr, Wrike, Opal, Adobe Experience Manager, Box, frame.io, and Quip.
  • Working knowledge of Keynote, Pages, and Numbers and other business applications.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $146,800 and $221,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
